Welcome to Brough Rare Breeds

We started as a small family run, hobby based business, hatching on a small scale. But the thing about chickens is that they are very addictive. We now keep a minimum of 50 chickens and in the height of the breeding season can have well over 200. We breed our rare breeds throughout the spring and summer months and hybrids for as long as they allow.

We have also just started to breed quail and we hope to be selling them in Spring 2012.

In October 2011 we were chosen as Breeder of the Month by The Chicken Coop, an online magazine. To read the interview click here.

All of our birds are hand raised. We hatch eggs cultivated from our own stock as well as those from repitable high standard local breeders. We travelall over the country collecting birds to ensure that none of our pairs and trios are related, so we can guarantee you first generation birds.

Our flock is DEFRA Registered.

All of our birds are fed on a high quality feed mixed by Rachel which provides everything they need to grow at a suitable rate. We are happy to provide birds for all purposes, just contact us with your requirements and we will do our best to help.

We are also able to supply our feed mixes, which we have readily available to purchase directly from our premises.

Our birds do not have their wings clipped, unless escape becomes a problem, but if you would like this done, please ask and we will show you how to do it.

Chickens, Ducks and Geese.

We Pride ourselves on the health and wellbeing of our birds and all are kept in secure housing over night and allowed to roam either in the purpose built run or freely in the garden, depending on their age.

Although chickens are our main hobby we do occasionally breed ducks, geese and muscovies. We are able to offer a hatch to order service for these species, if we do not have a current stock, as well as pheasants. Most of these breeds are sold as unsexed Day-Old stock.

If you require a large number of birds, we will do what we can to help. We have the facilities to hatch-off up to 50 birds at a time, but please consider that we do not always get 100% hatching / survival rate.

Hatch to order is only accepted once we have secured the eggs required and received a 50% deposit.

For more details please contact us and we will do our best to help.
